Smoke Mountain Interview

1.For those that have never heard of you before, can you tell us a little bit about the band?
Sure, we are from Tallahassee, Florida, and we formed in 2015. We recently released our debut, self-titled EP.

2.Recently you have released an ep, how would you describe the musical sound that is presented on the recording?
Heavy, lo-fi, and dark.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?
The lyrics tend to develop based on the feel of the music. So far, the topics have gravitated towards the occult.
4.What is the me
aning and inspiration behind the name 'Smoke Mountain'?
We named our band after the song, Smoke Mountain, which was the first song we wrote as a band. We'll leave it to the listeners to interpret the lyrics.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played so far and also how would you describe your stage performance?
Our singer, Sarah, got pregnant shortly after we finished recording our EP, so we haven't actually played out yet.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?
We've already been contacted by some venues and festivals about playing in 2018, so we are looking forward to an active live schedule next year.

7.Currently you are unsigned, are you looking for a label or have received any interest?
Right now our focus is on recording and releasing music ourselves.

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of stoner and doom metal?
The response we've gotten has been unbelievable. The EP has still only been out about 2 months, and we've already shipped CD orders all over the world, had our songs played on a bunch of great radio shows and podcasts, and gotten great reviews from some of the biggest doom and stoner blogs out there.

9.When can we expect a full length and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?
We started recording our full length last week, and we hope to release it by early 2018. If you liked our EP, chances are you'll like the new songs as well. I think the new batch of songs are a good mix of classic and modern doom metal and stoner rock.

10.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what ae you listening to nowadays?
As far as heavy bands go, we're all into bands like Pentagram, Sleep, Electric Wizard, Melvins, Acid King, etc. Also, Sarah is a diehard Guided by Voices fan, Brian has had a lifelong obsession with Glenn Danzig, and Lee listens to everything from obscure 60s psychedelia to 70s country folk.

11.What are some of your non musical interests?
Sarah is a hair stylist and an avid reader of books about British history. Brian is a murderabilia collector and horror movie enthusiast. Lee practices Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is interested in political philosophy.

12.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?
We're excited to release our new album and start playing shows in 2018! Go check us out atsmokemountaindoom.bandcamp.com !
