Ass Interview

1.Can you give us an update on what is going on with the band these days?

Playing as many shows as possible, writing new songs and trying to finish up some new recordings.

2.So far you have 2 ep's, how would you describe the musical sound on both of the
recordings and also how do they differ from each other?

Actually they were all recorded at the same time when we first got going.  Our friend Bill Fool with Little T&A Records was going to put out a 7" for us so we gave him three songs and the rest went to a Cassette release on Cerveza Records.

3.What are some of the lyrical topics and subjects the band explores with the music?

On the earlier stuff there was a lot of anger.  Pissed at dickhead frat dudes and pretentious assholes so it was much more aggressive.  The new stuff is more about what we are into...beer, pizza, drugs, satan, metal all the "cliche" new style thrash shit, but its what we were into before it became cliche so fuck it!

4.What is the meaning and inspiration behind the name 'Ass'?

Ha!  It just happened in a fast magic moment.  Me, Jonny and Houston were at a party and were like OK, we're gonna start a band.  And out of nowhere I said we're gonna call it ASS and there's gonna be umlauts over the S's instead of the A!  I immediately texted our friend Bobby who lived out of town and told him he was going to play drums, and Jonny texted James who he had seen post an ad to start a punk band and we practiced the next week and wrote three songs immediately.

5.What are some of the best shows that the band has played over the years and also how would you describe your stage performance?

I'd have to say playing with D.R.I. was bad ass.  We were on super early but the crowd was really into it!  Its always amazing to play shows with bands you've idolized forever.

6.Do you have any touring or show plans for the future?

Next show is at Bad Ass Weekend III in Houston, TX.  So many awesome bands!  Voivod, Napalm Death, Eel, Krang, Venomous Maximus, Mower...I could list fifty more!
As for touring right now we're concentrating on Texas but hope to head out and make some out of state shows this summer.

7.PRC Music are re-issuing both of your ep's on a full length album, can you tell us a little bit more about this deal?

Both the 7" and cassette have been long sold out and Remi hit us up from our bandcamp page about reissuing them and of course we said yes!  He's such a rad dude and so enthusiatic!

8.On a worldwide level how has the feedback been to your music by fans of crossover and thrash?

Its actually been extremely positive.  Which is awesome.  Its validating as fuck to have dudes from France, Japan, Norway, England, etc. order your record or actually pay for the download when we have it set for free!

9.Are any of the band members also involved with any other bands or musical projects these days?

Right now we're all just concentrating on ASS!

10.When can we expect a full length album and also where do you see the band heading into musically during the future?

Recordings for a new record are almost done!  Just have some final mixing to do.  Hopefully have it out by summer!

11.What are some of the bands or musical styles that have had an influence on your music and also what are you listening to nowadays?

We all come from different musical backgrounds.  But we all love the same shit.  D.R.I., Discharge, Venom, Municipal Waste, Pennywise, Bad Brains, old Metallica, Slayer, etc.!

12.What are some of your non musical interests?

Pretty much beer, weed, kittens, dogs, BBQ, pizza and I think that about covers it.

13.Before we wrap up this interview, do you have any final words or thoughts?

Big thanks to Remi for putting out this reissue and thank you for wanting to ask us questions!
